about

The man tells how the town has gone downhill & how his despair has mirrored it's demise

lyrics

The Tin Man

The locals call him the Tin Man,
And he sits in the town everyday,
Drinking cheap cider and swearing,
People keep out of his way.
He used to work in the tin mine,
Until the day it shut down,
35 years of toil and sweat,
All for nothing
And it finished the town.

So he sings for some cash when he’s sober,
In the square where the local bus stops,
There’s a bookies and some boarded up buildings,
Half a dozen charity shops.
His wife and children had left him,
The drinking got out of hand,
Done his best, but what can you do
When you can’t pay your way,
Or walk like a man.

So he parks his chair in the precinct,
Drinking as the traffic rolls by,
They’re on their way to their holiday homes,
And the Tin Mine Museum nearby

I guess we’ve all seen a Tin Man,
He’s there on a street near you,
And if you’re anything like me,
You’ll hurry on by, without catching his eye

But if you talk to the Tin Man,
He’s got plenty to say,
The life that he leads could be me or you,
It’s only a paycheque away.
So listen up to the Tin Man,
He’s got something to share,
Its’s a story of some proud working men,
Lost in a world
That just doesn’t care
